DRUM and BELL TOWER,FIGHTING THE PHILOSOPHERS,CINGED $8

Drum & Bell Tower is the melodic songwriting project of Williams Lake,
BC's Brent Morton.Putting aside six albums' worth of pounding psychedelic electro-acoustic fusion,he shifted to acoustic instrumentation and a lyrical focus.Inspired by political, environmental, and social justice themes,Brent is two albums in to this experiment(Scratch Out Your name, 2010,and Burn Beneath the Water,2011)Live solo performances, which put to work vocals, guitar, kick drum, and hi-hat,range from expressive melodics to toe-tapping & boot stomping throw downs.

Walking around the old core of Xi'an, China,I was struck by the
predominance of two structures-the Drum Tower and the Bell Tower. These buildings dedicated to the two most essential elements of music took me on a trip, and I decided to change the name of my musical act from Funeral Songs,four-albums in,to Drum & Bell Tower.
My first solo acoustic album is of songs that were the result of an inspirational festival season in '09 and a desire to move away from electronic music in favour of acoustics.
The festival that most moved me in that summer was ArtsWells, and in particular,Wax Mannequin. For propers,I named this latest album after a line in the first song on his new record "Saxon".
I recorded "Scratch Out Your Name" in Wells, BC, in November of '09 in the cozy Wells United Church;it had been the acoustic venue for many amazing shows at ArtsWells festivals over the years.
Leading up to the recording, and during it,I had been reading a variety of non-fiction books on ecology, economics, and the empire,as well as a number of books by Cormac McCarthy.I think the lyrics reflect that focus,as they are often dark and heavy.
In the early spring of 2011, I returned to Wells to record another album. With a few more tricks up my sleeve and a bit of help from some wise friends,I've produced a new album that has a more polished and clean sound. The title is Burn Beneath the Water.

Fighting The Philosophers is the current solo project of artist Christian
Lafleur. Christian was born in Comox, BC but spent his formative years in
Saskatoon, SK. A fully self taught musician, he bought his first guitar at
seventeen and quickly discovered his keen ear, natural talent and profound
passion for music of all genres. Over the next fifteen years Christian
showed himself to be a versatile and prolific artist - performing live and
in studio as a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and a major part
of the songwriting engine behind iconoclastic Saskatoon bands The Anderson
Counsel, The Escapegoats and The Nihilo Fits.
FTP is currently preparing a set of acoustic rock with the all the
creative brilliance fans of Christians endeavours have come to expect.

Also joining the stage is Cinged,a super creative band with a unique
style of trance/ experimental mixed with elements of rock and world music. With hard rock overtones, and tribal drum stylings will have you in an awsomeness induced trance.Started with two people bringing
together different styles to create something new. Music created with feeling, music we lived in, to create... are living in, to create.... and so it began...like any project, this one has had its ups and downs, and has really begun to grow into something. With 3 of us,another element has been brought into the equation, and with this another whole
perspective is broadcasted throughout our "universe", our creation. And on this note, it continues....Theresa Bishop sings, plays
guitar,piano,and percussion. Corey Bornau sings,plays alto/tenor
saxaphone, guitar, piano, clarinet, flute, and percussion. Mike Mcinnes is the bassist.
Experience the ultimate music ride from these unique, talented acts.

DAVID ROY PARSONS,DAVE SOROKA

On moving to Vancouver from Ottawa in the late 90’s David Roy Parsons
began recording his original songs, as well as other local musicians’ in his living room studio. Amongst others, Joey Only’s album “Radical Folk of The Great North” were recorded in Dave’s living room studio.
With the release of David’s 2007 album “Matters Of Survival” he began to tour across the country, and became a festival regular at Northern BC’s Artswells Festival where his songs became regular jam staples. On
Halloween 2011 he released his fourth cd at Vancouver’s Railway Club with his newly formed band The Radishes.

“His lyrics remind me of John Donne, and his melodies are undeniable. He's sophisticated and straightforward at the same time, like Hank Williams. If you care about songwriting, don't deny yourself the pleasure of listening to this man.” --Geoff Berner [Mint Records recording artist]

Dave Soroka lives in Grand Forks, right down on the US border, and has been writing songs since 1969 when he got my first guitar at 15.An Army brat, grew up on bases in Kingston Ontario,Calgary and Camp Wainwright Alberta, with a few years in between where we lived like civilians in a house Dad bought in Chilliwack. In the summer we would come to Grand Forks to visit grandparents and cousins, and call Grand Forks my home town.
Worked as a section man on the Canadian Pacific Railway, pulled boards on the green chain for Pope And Talbot, loaded boxcars and driven a boom boat for MacMillan Bloedel on Vancouver Island...but for the most part he has been self-employed all his adult life, doing things like carpet cleaning, delivering flyers, painting houses, washing vinyl siding, roadside sales... whatever it takes...
I have three kids and three grandkids so far. I was a deadbeat dad so I can't brag about how they've all turned out, but they're all beautiful.
To date I've written about a thousand songs, many of whose tunes I've forgotten, so now when I perform I'll sometimes just speak them as poetry, with other songs mixed in which I accompany with my guitar and sometimes harmonica.
I've recorded a number of CDs. The one that people seem to like the best so far is called The Ladies Of Summer.
As far as my goals for my art: I just want the listener to feel some of what I feel.

"If you haven't heard him, well, you should!"
Lionel Conant, Music On The Mountain Festival

...a mythical figure in the Canadian indi music scene..."
Paul Crawford:

...rock 'n' roll poet, modern muse, beat poet of the 21st century..." James Moore, Radio Curlew:
..These are songs that speak of the back alley poet, sung from the heart.."
